pastries and yum

We get together on Saturday night and play cards and games, plus we share a meal. And with a meal there should always be a dessert, right? So since TJ & I got hooked on the TLC show "The Cake Boss" each weekend we find a new bakery in the area. This week we tried The Sweet Shoppe in High Point. I'm in search of the perfect elephant ear like the one in Wisconsin at Manderfields bakery in Appleton http://www.manderfieldsbakery.com/our-tradition/. The Sweet Shoppe was average in quality & nothing to write home about.

just a nice day

The back is getting better which means being able do more things. We took a nice leisure walk at Reynolda gardens and while on the trail we came across a woman with a gray and white lop eared rabbit w/harness and leash. We talked bunny for a bit then continued on our walk. It was a good day.

for the love of cats!!!

This is crazy...............but I love it! Check out the site for more info. http://caboodleranch.com/videos.html

nothin' new

Since TJ hurt his back a couple of weeks ago, we really haven't been able to do much or go any where exciting, except maybe to some of the bakeries in the area. I'm in search of the perfect elephant ear. We work, watch some TV and started walking for our health. Right now the walking consists of the roads in our neighborhood, but once his back is better we'll be hitting the hiking trails and green ways. So until then it's hangin' with friends (Gordon's Friday nite, Wiles Saturday nite) and settling in with the cats.

Memories

Lately I've been very homesick for Wisconsin winters, and all the seasons, hanging with the family out at the lake, and the smell of cows. Yes I love the smell of cows and their manure. I would love to be able to move back to the Chilton area, but the only way that's gonna happen is to win the lottery. I have memories of Friday night fish fry's, fresh and deep fried cheese curds and the bakeries. Real bakeries, not those in-store things. One of my favorite baked goods are peanut squares. I can remember asking Mom as a kid, if I could run down to Berens Bakery down the street for peanut squares, but you had to get there really early or they would be sold out. So today I took a vacation day and searched the net for recipes. Behold the power of the Internet, I found a recipe for peanut squares and 4 hours later.............

I followed this recipe and they are just as I remember them to be.

Snow day for some

<~~It doesn't look like much, but there is a thin layer of ice over the snow. This makes for a pretty crappy drive and since that is what TJ does for a living.......................

<~~this is how he is spending his Tuesday. Oliver is not going to complain about this. As for me........hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go................

now that's a tea!

We checked out a new restaurant this past weekend in W-S. http://redhotandblue.com/
The brisket is AWESOME!! And so is the potato salad, no bacon or pickle relish in it, just how we like it. And the portions are large, even the tea was huge.
